An Indonesian teenager miraculously survived by reading his bible after being lost for 49 days in the Pacific Ocean with no food and water.
Aldi Adilang
Aldi Adilang is a 19-year-old lamp keeper on a floating fish trap in Indonesia. On July 14, 2018, strong winds snapped the moorings of the floating fish trap and sends him drifting a 100 miles in the Pacific Ocean towards Guam. With no paddle and no engine control, Aldi has no way to control the direction of the fish trap.

After just a few days, his food and water supply ran out. He was forced to burn woods from the fish trap he was floating on to cook the fish he caught from the ocean. To hydrate his self, Aldi drank ocean water filtered through his clothes.

Turned to God
Ten ships have passed by and none of them notices Aldi. That’s when he lost all his hope and reached his breaking point. He planned to commit suicide by jumping into the ocean but God has another plan for his life. Aldi suddenly remembered his parent’s advice – to turn into God in times of suffering. He then turned into the Bible that was with him on the fishing trap and prayed to God.
The Rescue
After seven weeks lost in the ocean, a huge cargo ship bound for Japan passed by the floating fish trap. Aldi was able to communicate with the ship with his two-way radio. The MV Arpeggio cargo ship received Aldi’s signals and turned back around to help him.
The rescue was a challenge as the huge ship created huge waves that nearly overturned the fish trap. They couldn’t get close to Aldi so with all his strength left, he jumped into the open ocean and swam towards the ship. The cargo crew then pulled him with a ladder onto the ship.

Aldi was immediately given first aid by the cargo crews and was then taken to Japan where he was accommodated by Indonesia’s consul general.
This is an extraordinary story of survival and a testimony of how God can turn your situation around.
